Las Vegas hotels offer comps (complimentary gifts) to their visitors when those visitors are willing to play for long periods of time, typically at least four hours, and spend a considerable amount of money at the tables. Whether you're staying at the Bellagio or an off-the-beaten-path hotel casino, you can receive comps when you play smart with the right type of strategies. It's important to remember that comps are not always guaranteed, but there are some strategies you can implement to increase your odds of receiving free gifts and rooms in Vegas.
Visit the Las Vegas hotel where you would like to receive a free night's stay, free food, free tickets to shows and more.
Head to one of the casino's customer service or concierge desks and ask the customer service representative for a "player's card," which you will use while playing games at the casino. Each hotel offers its own application, which you will be required to fill out to receive your card.
Find games that offer higher winning odds. For example, the craps table offers the best odds to players. You can also learn to play break-even blackjack or try your luck at roulette table with a 50/50 chance of winning on odd/even and black/red bets. Spend a considerable amount of time at the tables, typically at least four hours. Comps are typically based off of money spent and time spent playing.
Bet higher wages when pit bosses are paying more attention to your table. It's in the casino's best interest to offer free comps to players who are wagering higher amounts. Expect to budget at least $1,000 a day for play at the casino in which you are staying. Casinos often offer comps based directly off the wagering amount you're playing. For example, if the loss rate is 5 percent and you bet $1,000, your comp would be $50; if you are at a cheaper hotel, that may be enough to nearly comp your room, while a stay at the Bellagio can easily cost $5,000 or more in single-day play. There are exceptions to the gambling amount rules, so don't fret if you don't plan on gambling heavy.
Charge everything to your hotel room, including food, drinks and gifts (when possible).
After several hours, ask to speak to a hotel host. Ask the host nicely for a free room. Most comps are free meals, nightclub tickets and other basic offerings, so asking for a free room ensures you at least have the chance to get one of the comps you want.
Ask the casino host for his host card. Then, the next time you return to Vegas, call ahead and ask the host for a comped room. If you are a regular to the casino and you are considerate to the host during your stay, the chances of receiving free rooms is much higher.
