As the only motel and restaurant in the town of Smyrna, The Brookside Inn is a popular stop right off nearby Interstate 95. The Brookside Inn has been in business since 1993. The Brookside Inn motel offers nine units, each with a full bath and two full-size beds. Both the motel and restaurant offer free Wi-Fi.
The Brookside Inn has a full-service restaurant featuring daily menu specials. In addition to signature entrees such as biscuits and gravy and homemade pancakes, the Brookside Inn bakes breads, biscuits, cookies and cakes from scratch daily. The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 8 p.m.
The Smyrna area is close to sledding, tubing and snowmobiling trails at Jefferson Mountain. Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding are popular in the winter. Summer activities in the Smyrna region include fishing, hiking, camping and horseback riding.
Katahdin Lodge is a group of accommodations along Smyrna's Aroostook Scenic Highway, also known as Maine's Route 11. This 40-acre area includes trees, rivers and streams. The lodge, established in 2000, was named after nearby Katahdin Mountain.
The main lodge has a gaming room, dining room, fireplace and a grand piano. The lodge can accommodate up to 25 people and has nine guestrooms. Two individual cabins can each sleep five people. Meals eaten in the lodge dining room are not included in guestroom and cabin prices.
Katahdin Lodge features hiking trails, a campfire area, an onsite lake and use of the lodge's canoes. The lodge is near Baxter State Park and has a direct access to more than 1,600 ATV and snowmobiling trails. Katahdin Lodge is approximately a mile from the International Appalachian Trail, which was completed in 2000.
The Bear Mountain Lodge is on 27 wooded acres along Maine's Route 11. It has been open since 1955. The lodge features four individual cabins that can each sleep six to eight people, several bunk houses that can sleep two people and the main lodge, which can accommodate up to 10 people. Outlying campsites are available during hunting season.
Guests can do their own cooking or eat in the lodge dining room. Meals are served as an all-you-can-eat buffet-style. The lodge also sells the hunting and fishing licenses. Hiking trails are around Bear Mountain Lodge, as well as the neighboring Skitacook and Rockabema Lakes.
