Batesville was first called Napoleon, then Poke Creek before the current name was settled. The town is on the White River below a lock and dam. It has a regional medical center and airport, a small college and is the county seat of Independence County.
Esta's White River retreat is on the banks of the White River in Locust Grove, Arkansas, a 20-minute drive west of Batesville. The 8 riverfront log and cedar cabins are upscale for comfort. Each cabin has scenic views of the river and the surrounding mountains. Fishing is available from a dock or by boat with a launching ramp on the grounds.
Mountain View is about 40 minutes west of Batesville. The small town is home to the Ozarks Folk Center as well as a number of annual events celebrating music, crafts and local food. Mountain View has several cabins from which to choose.
