Along the Lewis and Clark Trail lies a shimmering waterway that straddles the Nebraska/South Dakota boundary. This lake in the nature preserve along the trail that explorers Lewis and Clark traveled while exploring the West in the early 19th century offers recreation for sailors, fishermen, water skiers and swimmers. The lodgings in the area include rustic cabins in which visitors can stay while enjoying their visit to the area.
The Salt Camp Cabins in Rosebud ,South Dakota, offer a bed and breakfast experience in the Crazy Horse Canyon of the Sioux Reservation. Local activities include hunting, hiking, observing wildlife, ATV trails, experiencing pow-wows and exploring historical sites. Visitors may stay in the private cabins and join with other vacationers at the main house for breakfasts and dinners, which are included in the price for accommodations. The cabins include bedding and towels for up to eight people, and each cabin has a full bath and a shower. Air conditioning and heating are available as desired. Each kitchen has cooking utensils and appliances.

The campgrounds at Midway Gulch include rustic cabins for visitors to stay at while enjoying the rural beauty and atmosphere of the area around Lewis and Clark Lake. Each 12' x 20' camping cabin has air conditioning and heating, comfortable beds and access to the camping area’s laundry room and showers. Each log cabin has an additional kitchen and dining area with a division between the cabin's loft area and the main room.

Visitors to the Lewis and Clark Lake from the Nebraska side can stay in the cabins of the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area. These cabins offer scenic views of the lake and the surrounding bluffs. The two-bedroom cabins with three single beds and two queen beds include air conditioning and heating, cooking appliances and utensils, and a kitchen service for eight. Each cabin has a covered patio, outdoor grill, picnic table and campfire ring. Guests must secure a permit to the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Park.
