Smoke Hole is a scenic gorge located in the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, which is part of West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest. The south branch of the Potomac River carved a deep canyon through the area, creating sheer rock faces and a striking rugged landscape. Smoke Hole, named for the misty fog that's is often seen in the canyon, features a range of outdoor activities, including hiking, rock-climbing and canoeing. After a day of fun in the sun, visitors can find accommodations in a number of rental cabins.
Smoke Hole Resort sits in a lovely valley near Seneca Rocks. There are more than 20 log cabins along the Potomac River with full kitchens, wood-burning fireplaces, WiFi service, daily housekeeping and access to the resort's amenities, including a pool and an on-site fishing and hunting outfitter. North Mountain Vacation Rentals offers three log cabins in secluded parts of the Monongahela National Forest. The cabins, which are about four miles from Smoke Hole, are set in scenic areas with abundant wildlife, as well as number of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing.
