Parkersburg, West Virginia, on the Ohio River, is the gateway to the Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park in the middle of the Ohio River. Mountwood Park is located in Waverly around 12 miles from Parkersburg. It offers two primitive cabins, two beach cabins, and numerous campsites. The primitive cabins have four bunk beds, electricity and a ceiling fan. There are no toilet facilities in these cabins and guests must use the common bathhouse. The beach cabins have queen size beds, a pull out couch and an outdoor deck, plus a bathroom, kitchen and living room. Pets are welcome for an additional charge. The common activities available here are hiking, biking, boating, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, golf and shooting. Bikes, canoes, paddleboats and rowboats are available to rent.

North Bend State Park is located near the Hughes River in Cairo about 22 miles from Parkersburg. North Bend offers nine cabins in a white pine forest on a private ridge. All cabins have either two, three or four bedrooms, have central heat and air, telephone, a fully equipped kitchen, blankets, linens, telephones and baths. The cabins have to be rented for at least a week in summers. North Bend also has an outdoor swimming pool and camping grounds. The North Bend Rail Trail is specifically designed for horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking. Other activities include golf, swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing. Mountain bikes and boats are available to rent.

Log House Homestead is about 22 miles from Parkersburg in Cairo on a quiet county lane. It is built to simulate the 1800s architecture and looks like a historic monument built out of stones and logs. The two storied log house has a living, dining and a study area with a stone-faced fireplace on the first level. There are two bedrooms and a half bath on the second floor. The root cellar has a kitchenette with a microwave and a refrigerator, as well as a deluxe bathroom with two showers and a Jacuzzi. The activities to enjoy in this area are boating, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and golf.
