Located in Ritchie County, Harrisville, West Virginia, nestles among farmland, woods and streams. Ritchie County has several Wildlife Management Areas such as The Hughes River and Sand Hill with more than 20,000 acres of forest and wetlands that offer places for the public to hunt, fish and hike, and waterways to explore by canoe or kayak. Pennsboro Water Supply Reservoir has a 9-acre fishing and boating lake, and Tracy Lake has fishing, boating and primitive campsites.
North Bend State Park, located on the horseshoe bend on the Hughes River in Cairo, is 12 miles from Harrisville. The park has nine fully furnished cedar cabins perched on a pine-covered ridge. The cabins are available for year-round rental and come with central heating, air-conditioning, a TV, a telephone, and pets are allowed.
The park has wireless Internet at the North Bend Lodge and lawn areas and provides equipment and boat rentals. Activities at the park include biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking and volleyball as well as tennis and miniature golf.
There is a seasonal swimming pool and a picnic area with a playground, a covered pavilion and restrooms. Local activities include the North Bend Rail Trail that follows the old B&O Railroad's path where visitors can hike, bike and go horseback riding.

The Log House Homestead is 12 miles from Harrisville and next to North Bend State Park. The house, which can accommodate two to five guests, was built in the 1820s, and the decor reflects the era. The cabin has central heat and air-conditioning, two bedrooms and a half bath upstairs and a main floor with a dining and sitting area.
The root cellar, completely redone with tile and lots of light, has the kitchenette with a microwave and small refrigerator; the full bath has a shower and Jacuzzi. A hearty country breakfast is provided daily.
Attractions in nearby Harrisville include the North Bend Golf Course and the historic R.C. Marshall Hardware Store.

Mountwood Park Campground is 22 miles from Harrisville and a quarter of a mile from Mountwood Park. It is a year-round campground, but in the off season some of the facilities, such as the camp store, might not be available.
Cabin rentals consist of two primitive cabins that come with four bunk beds, electricity and a ceiling fan. The Beach House sits on the 50-acre fishing lake and comes with a queen-sized bed, a sofa bed, a bathroom, a kitchen with full-sized appliances, a living area and a deck. The campground has a camp store, a bathhouse, picnic shelters, fire rings, picnic tables and firewood for sale. Nearby Mountwood Park has a stocked fishing lake, miniature golf, hiking, biking trails, a shooting range and a disc golf course.
