Lake Chippewa Flowage Resorts

The Chippewa Flowage is a series of small lakes, bays and wetlands in northern Wisconsin, a region that provides some of the nation's finest fishing. The principal town is Hayward but resorts, campsites and motels are scattered throughout the area's dense, hilly pine forests. The surrounding wilderness is ideal for hiking, biking and relaxed exploration and many of the resorts have private beaches for swimming and lounging.

  1. Big Musky Resort

    • The Big Musky in Hayward is located on Scott Lake, a fishing mecca. Guided fishing tours are available, and the resort adjoins hiking and biking trails. There is a motel building with basic and kitchenette units, as well as two cabins to rent. The resort has a boat launch and a private beach for the use of guests.

    Barker Lake Lodge

    • The Barker Lake Lodge offers guests a bit of gangland history as well as recreational activities and deep-woods relaxation. Built by a Prohibition-era beer baron as a hideout for Chicago gangsters, the Barker Lake has survived and thrived since then with a spacious cedar-log lodge including ten guest rooms, cabins for rent in the warm-weather months, a billiard room, a greatroom and a full range of outdoor fun, including golfing, fishing, hiking, hunting and horseshoes.

    Oak Shores Resort

    • Open year round, the Oak Shores resort is one of four resort properties on the Chippewa Flowage operated by Treeland Resorts. The Oak Shores has nine units featuring fireplaces, kitchens, decks, barbecue grills, full baths, whirlpools, kitchens and televisions with VCRs. The resort offers an inground pool that is heated in the summer season, as well as a a playground, private dock and free kayaks.

    R&R Bayview Resort

    • The R&R Bayview is one of the larger resorts on the Chippewa Flowage. Located on a secluded bay adjoining the Chippewa National Forest, the R&R offers lake cottages with kitchens and screened porches, from one to six bedrooms in size. All cabins have a convenient barbeque grill, firepit, and picnic table. There is a private boat dock, concrete ramp, and private beach, as well as boats to rent and a restaurant on the premises.

    Shady Nook Resort

    • The Shady Nook on a secluded corner of the Chippewa Flowage has comfortable private cabins as well as RV hookups and campsites for those who want to rough it a bit. There is a main lodge with satellite television and a bar and restaurant, bait and tackle shop, and plenty of fishing stuff, including licenses should you need one. The resort also offers fish-cleaning and storage facilities, should you get lucky out on the lake.
