Mediterranean Cruises for Kids

The Mediterranean region has a rich culture and history, ranging from Barcelona, Spain to Dubrovnik, Croatia. Although many cruises on the Mediterranean Sea can be romantic getaways for adults, a variety of cruises attract the whole family, including young kids. While adults will enjoy learning the history of sites such as the ruins in Rome, kids will love pretending it is their exotic playground.
  1. Disney Mediterranean Cruise

    • The Disney Cruise Line offers three different Mediterranean cruise packages. The first is the Seven-Night Mediterranean Cruise, which gives you the option of choosing between two itineraries. Both will begin sailing from Barcelona, Spain and hit the ports of Cannes, France; La Spezia, Italy; Civitavecchia, Italy; Naples, Italy; and Palma, Mallorca (Spain) before returning back to Barcelona. The 10-Night Mediterranean Cruise will stop at two additional ports: Ajaccio, Corsica and Villefranche, France. The third cruise offered by Disney is the 11-Night Mediterranean Cruise. This one will stop in Tunis, Tunisia in addition to the above-mentioned ports.

On-board activities of this cruise-line include live shows, a spa, nightclub, and youth clubs. Because a couple of the days are at sea, kids will enjoy watching performances such as "Toy Story: The Musical" and "Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story."

    Princess Mediterranean Cruises

    • Princess Cruises offer fun for the entire family. On the Princess ships, you will find activities for kids and teens in the Youth Center, Teen Center, and Splash Pool. These hangouts for kids include the latest video games, movies, board games, foosball tables, and jukeboxes. There are even pizza parties and pajama parties for very young children to enjoy.

The cruises themselves, are a vast variety. The 12-day option includes cruises such as the Grand Mediterranean, Greek Isles and Holy Land. You may also choose Seven-Day Interlude cruises such as the Greek Isles Interlude Cruise (where you will get to relax on the beach of Santorini and explore the ruins of Ephesus in Kusadasi,Turkey), and the Mediterranean Interlude Cruise departing from Rome, Italy.

    Carnival's Grand Mediterranean Cruise

    • The Grand Mediterranean cruise ports for Carnival cruises include Rome, Naples, Venice, Dubrovnik, Barcelona, and Livorno. While most European cruise ships cover only the western half of the Mediterranean Sea, Carnival actually sails to Dubrovnik, Croatia, which once competed with the famous city of Venice as a trading center.

On-board the Carnival ships, you can find many activities available for the whole family. A WaterWorks park for kids includes water slides and other water games. Both kids and adults may enjoy a tropical resort-style pool. Camp Carnival is an on-board youth program designed for kids ages 2 to 11 divided into three sections: toddlers, juniors, and intermediates. Likewise, Circle-C is a youth program for kids 12 to 14 and Club O2 is meant for teens ages 15 to17.
