RV Parks near St. Paul, VA

St. Paul is a very small town in Russell and Wise counties in the far-western point of Virginia, near Kentucky. The town rests in the Appalachian mountain range near Big Stone Gap. Visitors to St. Paul can find several mountain streams and lakes for outdoor water sports, or enjoy mountain climbing and hiking through the several state parks, including Jefferson National Forest. RV parks in this area of the state are few, but provide visitors with plenty of opportunities to explore the landscape.
  1. Jessie Lea RV Park

    • Jessie Lea RV Park is west of St. Paul on the Powell River. It is one half hour from Bristol Speedway and Jefferson National Forest. The park features picnic tables at each site and along the Powell River. The park is on the Greenbelt Walking Trail, which takes hikers to Big Stone Gap. The park stages an outdoor pavilion production of "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" by John Fox, Jr. There is a new bathhouse with shower and restroom facilities. There is also a gift shop with RV supplies for sale. Each site has full hookups and wireless Internet access. Jessie Lea RV park is open year round.

    Riverside Campground

    • Riverside Campground is 23 miles south of St. Paul, on the North Fork of the Holston River, and near Hidden Valley Lake. The park has an on-site bathhouse and laundry facility, as well as basketball and volleyball courts. The recreation center has bingo hall and a game room with arcade games. There is also a playground and a small supply store which sells camping equipment, and a private boat ramp on the river. There are 98 sites with full hookups with 30-amp electric, a picnic table and a fire pit. Tent sites and air conditioning units are available. The park allows two vehicles per site.

    Kingdom Come State Park

    • Kingdom Come State Park is on Pine Mountain in the Appalachian Range, right on the Little Shepherd Trail--thirty miles from St. Paul. Local attractions include the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum and the Appalachian Center. Visitors can tour the Portal No. 31 Underground Mine. The park is intended for primitive and tent campers, but does allow RVs and Big Rigs to camp there. There are no hookups, bathhouses, or laundry facilities on site. Also, the mountain roads can prove difficult for RV drivers to navigate. However, the park does have fourteen hiking trails and miles of undisturbed wilderness.
