Supplies for Living in an RV

Whether you plan to live in your RV for a week, month or even as a permanent residence, there are different supplies you need to live happily and safely. Traveling around the country can be a fun experience for the entire family, especially if you have everything you need. Along with the basic necessities, take along games, books and puzzles for those rainy days.
  1. Cooking and Food Supplies

    • If you plan to cook in your RV, make sure you have suitable pots, pans, dishes and glasses. You may opt to take plastic dishes and cutlery or disposable paper plates and cups. An electric skillet and coffee pot are essentials for your trip. Pack cans and packages of ready-to-eat food in case of power outages. Powdered drinks, coffee and tea are easy and safe to store. Take extra bottles of pure water. Plan your meals ahead to include all the ingredients you will need. If your RV has a large refrigerator and freezer, stock up on perishable foods. A small grill will allow you to cook outdoors.

    Clothes and Linens

    • Pack clothes suitable for the climates where you will be traveling. Pack wash-and-wear clothes that require little care. Jeans can be worn more than once and are suitable for different climates. T-shirts are versatile and can be covered with sweaters, jackets and blouses. Take along at least one dressy outfit for special evenings out.

Pack enough pillows, towels, washcloths and sheets for everyone. Take lightweight and heavy blankets for warm and cold nights.

    Tools and RV Necessities

    • Occasionally there may be a need for minor repairs during your travels. It is best to be prepared with an adequate tool box, emergency warning lights and several flashlights. Don't forget jumper cables, distilled water for your battery and protective gloves. Have electrical adapters to plug in your RV to available services at RV parks. Chemicals for drinking and toilet water are essential while traveling in your RV. Water pressure gauges are also necessary when traveling due to irregular water pressure at parks and campgrounds.

    First Aid and Hygiene

    • Have a complete first aid kit while traveling in your RV. Include antibacterial soap, cotton swabs, antiseptic cream or ointment for cuts, burns and insect bites. Also include medicine for stomachaches or unexpected respiratory illnesses. Bandages of all sizes are invaluable to have in your first aid kit. Make sure to have your prescriptions filled or bring along the paperwork to have them filled if you are traveling for an extended period of time.

Don't forget your toothbrushes, dental floss, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, sufficient biodegradable toilet tissue and laundry detergent.

    Miscellaneous

    • Make sure your cell phone is fully charged before leaving home and pack your charger. Keep a supply of cleaning supplies for dishes, floors and general cleanup. Take enough plastic bags for garbage disposal. Paper towels work well for cleaning and taking care of spills and easily disposed. Pack a fire extinguisher for emergencies. Line your cabinets with non-skid liners. Run a last-minute check for money, credit cards and necessary registrations and insurance for your RV. Put extra light bulbs on your list. Bring a portable DVD player or laptop to watch movies.
