Supplies for Survival on an Island

The chances of being stranded on any island are slim unless you travel to distant lands often. Yet, if this does happen, you can survive with the right skills, tools and mental aptitude. Fill a back pack and an additional fanny pack with survival tools and keep them with you at all times.
  1. Knife

    • If your budget allows, invest in a Swiss Army knife.

A high quality pocket knife is a vital survival tool regardless of whether your're in the woods or an island. You can use an knife to cut sticks to make a fire or use it to protect yourself. Buy a stainless steel pocket knife with two or more blades. Some pocket knifes are quite handy because they also contain scissors or other tools that fold out.

    Matches

    • Keep your matches in a plastic bag so they don't get wet.

Matches are another essential tool that can help you survive on an island. You need the ability to create a fire to keep warm and cook fish and other food that you may find on an island. You may also want to read a book about how to start a fire without matches because eventually the box of matches will run out. Keep your matches in a dry place or buy water proof matches. Matches won't light if they get wet.

    Tent

    • A small tent is also helpful for survival on an island. Island weather is tropical throughout the majority of the year, but there are times when conditions can get windy and cold. A tent can help keep you warm at night and block the wind from reaching you.

    Water Filtration Kit

    • If you are stranded on an island, the only water available is sea water and humans can't consume sea water because of the salt content. You need a good water filtration kit that can filter sea water or rain water.

    Food

    • Food is always helpful in any survival situation so pack as much freeze dried food as possible. However, eventually your food will run out so you will need to eat fruit or whatever food you can find on the island. You can try catching fish or eat animals such as crab because they are easy to catch.
