New Jersey Summer Sleepaway Camps

Summer sleepaway camp is a traditional American institution that gives kids freedom to safely explore the great outdoors away from home. The Mid-Atlantic state of New Jersey is home to multiple sleepaway camps that promote healthy summer fun and camp traditions in the woods, lakes and rivers of the state.
  1. Trail Blazers Camp

    • Founded in 1887, the Trail Blazers Camp is a co-ed sleepaway and day camp that focuses on outdoor skills. Located near Montague, New Jersey, Trail Blazers Camp has an average of 150 kids during each three-week camping session. Camping sessions begin in early July and end in late August. Programs are open to both boys and girls ages 7 to 16. Activities include backpacking, outdoor cooking, swimming, canoeing and rock climbing. The camp also focuses on performances, poetry and nature crafts. Trail Blazers Camp offers short sleepaway camps in the spring as well.

    Camp Vacamas

    • Camp Vacamas is a co-ed sleepaway camp founded in 1924. Located in West Milford, the camp provides three-week sessions for kids ages 7 to 16. Camp Vacamas offers several sleepaway programs, beginning with a Junior Camp for kids ages 7 to 13. The camp also offers a Teen Camp for teens ages 14 to 16. Sessions begin in late June and end in late August and fit about 400 kids. Activities at Camp Vacamas include sports such as basketball, softball and volleyball and nature excursions like canoeing, hiking and fishing.

    Fairview Lake YMCA

    • Fairview Lake YMCA is a co-ed sleepaway camp located in Stillwater, New Jersey on the shores of Fairview Lake. The camp is near more than 600 acres of land and offers access to the Appalachian Trail and the Delaware River. Founded in 1915, the 300-person camp accepts kids between the ages of 7 and 16 for sessions between late June and late August. Fairview Lake YMCA hosts activities such as horseback riding, canoeing, sailing and wind surfing, as well as arts and crafts, theater and outdoors skills. The camp hosts year-round open houses that offer tours of the campgrounds and an overview of the summer camp.
