Make several snack packs of fruit divided into types. For example, place berries such as blueberries and chopped strawberries in snack-size plastic sealable bags for a berry snack pack. Another fruit pack could contain melons like watermelons, cantaloupe and honey dew. Another could have tropical fruits like pineapples and kiwi. Avoid bananas because they can get mushy and cause a mess in the car. Keep cut fruit chilled in a cooler filled with ice.
Divide your family's favorite nuts such as peanuts, almonds and walnuts into individual snack bags. Mix in some dried fruit such as raisins or apricots and candy-coated chocolate to make trail mix. Throw in some granola in addition to or instead of nuts. Other snacks to put in individual bags are fish-shaped crackers, dry cereal such as toasted oats and sweetened cornflakes.
Place healthy white popcorn into an individual snack bag. Flavored popcorn can be found in the grocery store, but you can add your own seasonings by lightly tossing the popcorn in a healthy oil such as extra virgin olive oil and then adding garlic, black pepper, cinnamon, paprika or cayenne pepper. For sweet popcorn, sprinkle the popcorn with sugar.
Veggie snack packs can have celery and carrots combined in individual snack bags. Fill the hollow center of celery with peanut butter or cream cheese. Toss cherry tomatoes with an Italian dressing before placing into snack bags. Other vegetables to put in the snack packs include green and red pepper strips, raw broccoli and edamame. For a salad on the road, place lettuce and other ingredients in plastic cups with lids. Add dressing, cover the lid and toss.
