Determine where you want to go. Each destination has predictable peak and off-peak seasons.
Research the destination to find out when peak and off-peak seasons begin and end. You can do this by visiting that destination's website or by calling the local tourist bureau. Calling the tourist bureau has its advantages because you can ask when off-peak season is and why it is off-peak. A particular destination may look inviting online during the off season, but you may not want to visit it if you discover that shops, restaurants and attractions close down.
Use an online fare predictor such as Bing.com/travel or Kayak.com to determine whether fares are going up or down to identify when the best time to travel is. Bing tries to predict which way fares are going in the next 30 to 90 days, whereas Kayak offers you the cheapest air fares by dates of travel.
