Opened in 2004, the Doug Fir Lounge serves a host of cocktails, beers and wine in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lounge also features concerts of local and touring indie rock bands, describing itself as "unlike any live music room in Portland" and "swank yet comfortable." Housed in a building containing the Jupiter Hotel, the music room of the Doug Fir Lounge is located in the basement and is equipped with a "state of the art sound system" according to the venue website. The interior of the Doug Fir is a mix of 50s style diner and log cabin, with wooden inlay and retro furnishings.
Jazz fiends in Portland can sip their beverage of choice while snapping their fingers in time to the music at Jimmy Mak's. A lounge offering food, drinks and music, Jimmy Mak's was founded in 1996 with a focus on "Greek and Middle Eastern food with great music in a comfortable atmosphere," according to the website. Various local and national jazz acts perform at Jimmy Mak's, some which have no cover charge and others which cost between $5 and $25. Performances begin at 8 p.m. every evening and minors must vacate the premises by 9:30 p.m.
Describing itself as a "home away from home," Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub hosts one of the largest St. Patrick's Day festivals in the Pacific Northwest. The pub also features traditional Irish music seven nights a week, including monthly drum and pipe performances as well as Celtic dancers. The Kells has a full menu of Irish and Irish-inspired foods and a selection of beers, whiskies, wines and other drinks. There are daily happy hour specials on food and drinks as well, and a children's menu is available for little ones.
