The Instructions for Towing a Jeep Wrangler

Jeep Wranglers are a fun and exciting vehicle to have a 4-wheel drive experience. While taking a vacation or trip and using a recreational vehicle for overnight stays, having your Jeep Wrangler with you will allow you to run into town while keeping your RV hooked up at your camp site. Proper towing of your Jeep Wrangler is very important, and not following the correct procedures will come at a high expense with your mechanic.

Instructions

  1. Tow Prepping

    • 1

      Check that the Jeep Wrangler engine is turned off. If it is not off, turn it off.

      Press the brake petal and shift the automatic transmission into neutral. Depress the clutch if driving a manual transmission.

      Shift the transfer case into "N" (Neutral) and start the engine.

    • 4

      Place the automatic transmission into drive. If driving a manual transmission, put it into gear.

      Move your foot off the brake pedal. There should be no vehicle movement.

      Turn your Jeep Wrangler off and put the ignition to the "ACC" position.

      Shift the automatic transmission into park and apply the parking brake.

      Attach the vehicle tow bar, then release the parking brake.

      Disconnect the negative battery cable and stow it safely.

    Returning To Operating

    • 10

      Check that the engine is off.

    • 11

      Shift into neutral. Press the clutch if driving a manual transmission.

      Shift the transfer case into 2H or another desired setting.

    • 13

      Start the engine and put the transmission into drive. If driving a manual transmission, release the clutch after starting the engine.
