Campgrounds in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

Cape Hatteras is part of North Carolina's Outer Banks, a series of islands surrounded by turbulent currents and formidable sandbars, far offshore. The exciting waters and diverse topography of the region make Cape Hatteras a popular camping site. Campers can choose any one of a wide variety of options, from fully-equipped, coastal resort-style cabins and facilities, to primitive, secluded tent sites further inland.

  1. Frisco Woods Campground

    • Frisco Woods Campground is located on the Pamlico Sound Cape Hatteras National Seashore, offering a long seafront property that is excellent for watersports, as well as nearby woods for hiking and secluded camping. Frisco Woods has options for all campers. For those who prefer to camp in style, there are one- and two-room air-conditioned cabins, which include such amenities as cable TV, electric outlets and lighting, public phones and free wireless Internet access. For a step further into the wild, there are secluded campsites for RVs and pop-up tents with water and electricity, as well as additional primitive campsites that have no amenities. All campers have access to a general store and swimming pool as well as bathhouses with hot showers back at headquarters.

    Camp Hatteras Resort and RV Park

    • For resort-style camping, pamper yourself at Camp Hatteras Resort and RV Park, located on Hatteras Island in the village of Rodanthe--a campground and RV park equipped with all the basics plus a host of luxurious amenities. There are three swimming pools, an indoor jacuzzi, fishing ponds, jet-ski and kayak rentals, and a nine-hole golf course; plus, a number of additional sports facilities for tennis, horseshoes, shuffleboard and basketball are on-site. Campsites have full water and electric hook-ups, cable TV and wireless Internet. The campgrounds extend along 1,000 feet of the Pamlico Sound as well as 1,000 feet more along the Atlantic Ocean, all promising perfect views of the water.

    Cape Hatteras KOA

    • Cape Hatteras KOA is an Outer Banks campground that is open year round. Only sand dunes lay between the principal campgrounds and the Atlantic Ocean. This campground is great for families, offering a number of outdoor recreational activities such as basketball tournaments, watersports instruction and biking. Additional kids' activities include tie-die T-shirt making and mini-golf, as well as movies and campfires at night. Accommodations include cabins, RV sites, and tent sites. Site amenities include 50-amp electricity and cable TV in cabins, for an extra charge. Additional campground amenities include a free wireless Internet hot-spot, a snack bar, a pavillion/meeting room and a seasonal swimming pool.
