How to Keep Creepy Crawly Things Away from Your RV

It's beginning to look a lot like Winter! The fun is over and its time to pack up the RV. This year when you dry dock, try the following tips to keep the pesky critters away.

Instructions

    • 1

Stuff steel wool into any openings where bugs penetrate from the exterior of the RV. A mouse will not go through steel wool, but they will push it aside. If the portal area gets damp, use one of the brass scouring pads because they will not rust.

    • 2

Put a small amount of Vaseline around any area of entry into your RV. This will stop ants from entering.

    • 3

Put Mothballs near propane lines of a water heater and refrigerator. This will deter spiders.

    • 4

Spray the area you are going to be in with Listerine mouthwash and it will keep mosquitoes away.

    • 5

Fill any holes using the expanding foam spray, but use care with over filling. This also keeps cold drafts at bay. Read and follow the directions on the can.

    • 6

If you get bugs on the front of your motor home, put a light coating of dish soap or Vaseline on before leaving home, to make it easier to clean. When you return, just rinse it off and it comes clean.

    • 7

Plastic baggies with small punched holes, and filled with moth balls can be put into bays in a 5th wheel - especially near the front. It seems to help keep ants and bugs out of the basement.

    • 8

Shave Irish Spring soap into tin plates and put them around the trailer in the fall and winter months to keep the mice out.

    • 9

Clean up any tables used for food and scraps. Pick up all food dropped on the ground. Nobody likes showing up to their campsite to find hordes of ants and bugs.
