Connecticut has a number of beaches that are great for finding sea glass. Historically speaking, areas where there have been a high number of glass blowers, restaurants, or homes are good places to find sea glass. Connecticut beaches have medium-sized waves and are less crowded in the spring and fall months when it is still warm enough to roam the sands, so looking for sea glass in Connecticut is a pleasant experience.
Go to a beach that is highly recommended for finding sea glass. Hammonasset in Madison, Rocky Neck in Lyme, and Black Point in Niantic are three great places to find sea glass.
Seek out an area of the beach that has bluffs overlooking it. These areas are more abundant for sea glass because garbage may have been thrown over the bluff into the ocean. There is a higher prevalence of glass in these areas because of the fact that the glass stayed while the other refuse was washed away.
Take a look at the waves in the area. If the waves appear to be about one to two feet in height, this is the perfect place to find good sea glass. This means it has been tumbled to softness. Connecticut beaches are naturally a bit more rocky and, therefore, large waves aren't needed to tumble the glass, because the rocks have provided help.
Hone down your search even further by making sure that the area you are searching in has at least a stretch of water that extends into the sea by about 25 feet. This means that the sea glass has had enough room to be tumbled.
Look at the area where the tide has receded and left a line of seaweed and other matter. The seaweed in Connecticut is usually dark, so look for glints of light blue and green, as well as yellow and sapphire.
