Fun Math Car Games

Students can benefit from some extra math practice, and traveling in the car can be a chance to learn and work on math skills. There are several fun and interesting math car games you can use to encourage your children's learning.

  1. License-Plate Math

    • Set a goal number, such as 20, that players must reach then tell your kids to watch license plates. They can get to the goal number in any way that they wish. For example, one child might see a license plate with a 3, and add it to a 17 on another license plate. Kids write down their equations, and the first to get to the goal number wins that round.

    Finding Distance

    • On long car trips, give each child a laminated map that outlines your journey. The children can use wipe-off markers to outline the trip and then use the map legend, mileage signs and mile markers along the way to figure out the distance you have to go before you get there.

    Prices

    • As you travel, have children take note of the prices for gasoline, food or other items that are advertised. Then ask them to find the differences, such as how much more expensive gas is in one place than another.
