How to Stay Cool While Laying Out in the Sun

Laying out in the sun is a great way to spend an afternoon or even an entire day. The sun is very healthy for you. Laying out in the sun can help increase your metabolism by setting your internal clock to when it is daylight out. Laying out in the sun can also help you from getting sick by letting you soak in beneficial vitamin D. However, there is a down side to laying out in the sun: the chance of getting overheated. Follow these steps to stay cool while laying out in the sun.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 large bottle of water
  • 1 large spritzer bottle

Instructions

    • 1

Place a large bottle of water in the freezer 1 hour before you plan to head out to lay in the sun. This will make the bottle of water ice cold by the time you decide to get into the sun. It will also keep the water cold the entire time you are out there.

    • 2

Fill a large spritzer bottle with cold tap water right before you head out to lay in the sun. This water does not need to be as cold as your drinking water to keep you cool in the sun.

    • 3

Sip your ice cold water slowly from your water bottle to keep you cool as you lay out in the sun. Keeping your body well hydrated throughout the time that you are laying in the sun will keep it cool. Constantly drinking water will keep you cool better than drinking water only when you are thirsty.

Spray yourself down with the water in the spritzer bottle once an hour while you lay out in the sun to keep you cool. As the water evaporates from your skin, it will keep you cool.
