Have you ever been at the airport, waiting for your luggage at the baggage claim … only to realize that half a dozen other passengers on your flight have suitcases that look nearly identical to yours? It can be a frustrating process to spot your luggage on a baggage carousel, especially if it is black, brown or blue and of a conventional design. Traveling is stressful enough without the added pressure of having to check the ID tags of every suitcase that resembles yours. Here are a few tips on how to make things a little easier on yourself.
Be sure your luggage’s surface and handles are clean and free of dirt, grime or anything else that might inhibit tape from sticking to it.
Cut two pieces from the roll of tape, one about 1½ to 2 inches long and the other about 3 inches long.
Place the smaller piece of tape on the bottom or one of the sides of your suitcase or bag, making sure that the colorful tape is very conspicuous and can be seen from a distance, and that it’s pressed flat onto the surface of the bag and will not peel off.
Wrap the longer piece of tape around the bag’s handle, again making it as conspicuous as possible. If the bag has more than one handle, choose the one that you think will be easier to see from a distance as the bag goes around a luggage carousel.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 for each piece of luggage you wish to mark. Now when your flight lands and you find yourself at the baggage claim looking for your luggage, you should be able to spot it easily by looking for the tape pieces on any bags that look like they could be yours.
