Walkers can start on the North side of the Downtown/North End section of Boston's HarborWalk. The first stop at Burroughs Wharf will include the Fire Marine unit. Visitors can see the fire pump boat and the high speed pump boat and can ask questions of the firemen on duty. At Burroughs Wharf walkers can stroll on the promenade and enjoy the views of the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown.
Further to the south, walkers can sit on the benches at the Boston Yacht Haven and gaze through the available binoculars at the panoramic views of the Harbor Commercial Wharf. The neighboring wharf, the Long Wharf, dates back to the 17th century and walkers can go to the second floor lobby of the Marriott Long Wharf hotel to see a series of exhibited harbor-related art. The 19th century ship model of the USS Constitution sits here, as do porcelain artifacts recovered from Spectacle Island. Visitors can walk along the Norman B. Leventhal "Walk to the Sea", a wayfinding path which winds from Long Wharf to the highest point on the Shawmut Peninsula, Beacon Hill.
Rowes Wharf sits at the southern end of the HarborWalk and includes the Boston Harbor hotel where visitors can see Norman B. Leventhal's collection of Boston Harbor maps. The collection has nearly 90 maps showing exploration, development, and changes along the Boston waterfront and New England coast from the 17th through the 19th century. During the summer, the annual Boston entertainment series takes place every evening, from Tuesday through Friday at Rowes Wharf. Each night features a different type of music from 6:00p.m. to 10:00p.m.
