Things to Do at Shelter Island in San Diego, California

Shelter Island, located in western San Diego, is not actually an island, but a mile-long strip of land that is connected to the mainland by a narrow land bridge at the north end of the "island." This San Diego neighborhood is approximately 10 minutes from the beach activities of the Pacific Coast. Although it is not expansive in terms of size, Shelter Island features restaurants and hotels, including Kona Kai Resort and Bay Club.
  1. Pacific Rim Park

    • Pacific Rim is situated at the southernmost end of Shelter Island. This recreational area was the result of students from the United States, China, Mexico and Russia to help construct what is now one of four international parks in cities on the Pacific Coast. Other Pacific Rim Parks are in Tijuana, Mexico, Yantai, China, and Vladivostok, Russia. The park is centered around a monument called the "Pearl of the Pacific." Amenities at this park include walking and cycling paths, picnic facilities and it is a popular location for weddings and other events.
