Must-See Things in Australia and New Zealand

In both Australia and New Zealand, tourism is in growth mode. Besides exploring the more well-known places such as the Sydney Opera House and New Zealand's Milford Sound, a wide variety of things to do hover just outside the realm of the normal tourist attractions.
  1. Culture

    • A Maori tribesmen

For native New Zealand tribal culture visit Rotorua, where travelers relax at the Hell's Gate Thermal Reserve in the sulfur and mud baths and learn about the Maori culture from the many tours available in the city. In Coorong, Australia, cultural adventurers can learn the Aboriginal ways while kayaking through the natural landscape.

    Wildlife

    • Tasmania is a small island off the coast of southern Australia and is the perfect rain forest expedition for travelers. In New Zealand, the south island town, Kaikoura, is world renowned for its wide variety of marine life incredibly close to the shore and is a good place to spot whales, dolphins and seals in their natural habitat.

    Natural Wonders

    • A Maori tribesman performing

Punakaiki is famous for its natural "pancake" rock formations located along the west coast of New Zealand. If visited during high tide, many of the blowholes are active, shooting seawater up to alarming heights. In Australia, the Three Sisters rock formation just outside of Sydney is an infamous destination for hikers and other travelers.

    Exploration

    • Waitomo Caves in New Zealand are part of an underground river system where the famous "glowworms" are. Through the Blackwater Rafting Company, visitors can take a guided tour into the caves. This trip is not recommended for people who fear close quarters and does take a minor degree of physical fitness.

    Extreme Sports

    • Queenstown, New Zealand, is known as the adrenaline capital of the world and the birthplace of bungee jumping. This is a one-stop destination for bungee jumping, skydiving, heliskiing, hang gliding and any other possible extreme sport.
