The southern coast of Spain offers dolphin excursions. Tourists are taken on boat rides and allowed to view the dolphins from afar and witness them as they gracefully launch themselves through the water in schools. The tour guide may not allow you to swim with the dolphins as it is against the law but there are times that guides will look the other way. However, it is always better to do things the legal way and view the dolphins rather than swimming with them.
There are plenty of dolphins near the Strait of Gibraltar. Again, swimming with dolphins is against the law and most guides will defer your request to be allowed to swim with these creatures. However, just the experience of being so close to the dolphins is something that should not be missed.
Dolphins are a protected species in Spain and the ecotourism groups try to ensure that the dolphins are protected from human interference. That is why people are not allowed to swim with them. However, there is a place near Malaga called the Selwo Marina in Benalmadena where they have dolphins, but you are allowed only to swim with the sea lions. There are plenty of dolphins in Puerto Marina (Benalmadena) where you can see many dolphins and enjoy the schools swirling through the water.
However, if it is swimming with the dolphins that you must do, and then opt to go to the Zoomarine in Albufeira, South Portugal. It is a few hours away from Malaga, Spain, but Portuguese officials will allow you to venture into the water with the dolphins. Portugal is one country in Europe that has dolphins and allows humans to interact with them through swimming, viewing and in general appreciating the creatures in every way.
