Visit the Foliage Network (see Resources). This website has up to date information regarding where and when leaves are falling in the Northeast states. The website is monitored by “Foliage Reporters” who report in daily on new changes in the foliage.
Watch your local newspapers and news shows. These venues usually start watching the colors of the leaves in October and continue through November. They are your best source for information regarding the fall color season.
Check with your local Chamber of Commerce. They should have statistics from previous years and can point out to you some of the better spots in your area. Call the Chamber of Commerce in other states also and compile of list of hot spots.
Talk to the old-timers. Senior citizens are a great source of information when it comes to determining the factors that affect the changing colors. They can tell you just by the temperature change when the leaves will start changing. They can also tell you where the best fall colors can be found in their town.
View the colors changing online if you can’t make a scenic tour in person. Check out Visible Earth at NASA’s website (see Resources) for up to date satellite photos of the Northeast fall colors changing.
