      Reserve your hotel, cottage, campsite or condominium well in advance. The summer and fall months tend to be the busiest peak tourism season in Door County. This is even more important on or around holiday weekends. Plan on driving to Door County because you can see the bulk of the fall colors from the car.

      Bring snacks, bottled water, drinks and juices for the car ride. Snacks tend to make a more pleasant trip as you wind through the colorful forests. You may wish to stop by Lake Michigan and have a picnic, even if you purchase food just before your stop. The weather can change quickly as wind directions change, so have a jacket and long pants handy. Take toys and games along with you on the car ride to entertain the kids. If it is adults only, bring a book, music or magazine for yourself or your passengers when there is no scenery to look at.

      Go to Peninsula State Park and climb the tower. This will give you a panoramic overview of the entire park, not to mention the fall colors. You will need a Wisconsin State Park sticker or you will have to pay a daily admission fee for this. You can also hike the trails and walk along the water while you are in the park There is even camping available.

      Venture out to Cana Island and explore the rock and pebble beach. This is spectacular for picture-taking, sightseeing and just relaxing. You can also see the lighthouse and take a tour of this historic Door County landmark through the end of October. Do not forget to look out the window on your tour and take advantage of some spectacular views of the fall colors. This activity is for those 48 inches and taller and requires a small admission fee.

      Walk through many corn mazes that are offered throughout Door County. This will give you a view of the fall colors from a different angle. There is a small admission fee, but the entertainment is well worth the money and a sensational way to celebrate Halloween.

      Take a ferry boat out to Washington Island and see the fall colors as they unfold when you pull away from the shore. The island is sure to sport amazing colors as well. Take the Cherry Train Tour and leave the driving to someone else as you explore the amazing views, lifestyle and culture of the island.

      Take the back roads and spend your time exploring the amazing shoreline and bursts of colors. You may want to try this at sunrise and sunset, but the leaves are especially beautiful on clear blue autumn days. You can also stroll along Green Bay or Lake Michigan so you get a view from land as well.
