      Explore the Kisatchie National Forest. Hike the trails, check out the bayous for wildlife. Watch out for alligators.

      See Louisiana folk art at the museum in the historic Rapides Bank Building at 933 Main Street. This museum features contemporary Louisiana art and Louisiana folk art.

      Tour one of the oldest standing structures in central Louisiana. See a French Creole plantation house anchoring a complex of Antebellum buildings with exhibits depicting plantation life from 1795 to 1855. Find it at 3601 Bayou Rapides Road.

      Bike and hike in Alexandria. Try the Kincaid East Lake Loop crawling along the Kincaid Reservoir in the Kisatchie National Forest. Or give the Sandstone Trail a try. This trail is tucked into the wild part of the National Red Dirt Management Preserve in the Kisatchie National Forest. You can also bike the Wild Azalea Trail, 31 miles one way from Valentine Lake to Woodworth, Louisiana.

      Visit the Alexandria Zoo. The 33 shady acres are home to more than 600 animals. The recently completed African Habitat is not to be missed. Find it at 3016 Masonic Drive.
