Travel south to the Kancamangus Highway (Route 112). Follow the Kancamangus through the heart of the White Mountains. Stop at one of the many overlooks for a great autumn photo op.
Head north at the junction of the Kancamangus and Route 3, to Clark's Trading Post. Visit the live bear act and take a ride on the old wood-fire steam engine.
Continue north along Route 3 until it junctions with Route 302. Travel east on 302 until you reach Bretton Woods. Stay the night at the magnificent Mount Washington Hotel, and enjoy a 4-course dinner in their beautiful dining room.
Follow Route 2 east from New Hampshire to Western Maine. Enjoy the uncrowded roads and beautiful mountain views.
Stop for lunch at the Boiler Room Restaurant in the charming village of Wilton. Housed in the former Bass Shoe factory, the Boiler Room is open for lunch 7 days a week and features Maine brewed beer, fresh seafood and brick-oven style pizza.
Continue east along Route 2 to the town of Farmington. From there head north on Route 27 to Carrabasset Valley. Enjoy the towering mountains and gorgeous autumn colors in Carrabasset Valley. Take a hike up Sugarloaf Mountain.
