Kids' Guide to Disney

Visiting Disney World with children is fun and exciting. Although Disney is a child's playground, there are some attractions and entertainment that is often overlooked. Children will take delight in receiving a Disney makeover or learning about nature, as well as dining with their favorite Disney friends. Enjoy these often overlooked adventures at Disney and watch your children glow with joy.
  1. Feel Like a Princess

    • Disney World is the ideal place for little girls to feel like princesses. Visit one of the Bibbidi Bobbid Boutique locations in Downtown Disney or the Magic Kingdom for a princess makeover. Girls ages 3 and up can get a princess hairstyle, sparkly makeup and a costume to look like their favorite princess. For more princess interaction, have a meal at Cinderella's Royal Table in Cinderella Castle, and meet princesses including Jasmine, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty. Book early --at least 180 days in advance -- as reservations for Cinderella's Royal Table fill fast. If you can't get a spot at "Cindy's", the Grand Floridian's 1900 Park Fare and Epcot's Akershus also have princess-themed dining, so meeting Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and sometimes even Mulan, is easy.

    Kidcot

    • While visiting the World Showcase in Epcot, kids have opportunities to experience foreign languages and learn to write their names in Chinese, Japanese, French and Spanish. Tour the World Showcase and explore the Kidcot booths in each pavilion. Representatives from each country help children with arts and crafts, and tell children's stories from their home countries. Purchase a "passport" at the entrance of the World Showcase, and encourage kids to collect stamps and coins from each country.

    Camp Minnie-Mickey; Kids Discovery Clubs

    • Animal Kingdom is home to some of the most hands-on activities for little ones. Throughout the park, there are six Kids Discovery Clubs designed to educate kids about conservation and animals. Kids can dig for fossils, search for insects during a scavenger hunt and receive rewards for participating in each of the Kid Club activities.

In Camp Minnie-Mickey, children can learn about nature with Pocahontas' Grandmother Willow. There is also a stage show featuring Pocahontas and her forest friends.

Wilderness Lodge Whispering Canyon Cafe Restaurant, Contemporary Resort Chef Mickey's

    • At Wilderness Lodge's Whispering Canyon Cafe, contrary from the restaurant's name, children will have a wild, hootin' and hollerin' good time. During dinner, the restaurant cast organizes stick pony races, animal calling contests, and dance-offs where children--as well as unsuspecting adults--are the stars. As well as these shenanigans, cast members go around and help children make napkin hats and on some occasions, help children build their own desserts. If you're feeling really daring, ask for ketchup and Pepsi-Cola, for children will be in for a treat.

At Chef Mickey's, children create their own breakfasts with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto. Children interact with the characters while they teach kids how to make breakfast, set tables, and practice table manners.
