Disney Vacation Tips for Larger Families

For large families, Walt Disney World is the perfect option for a vacation. There are plenty of things to do, and family members of all ages can find activities that are suited for each individual need. However, for a large group, there may be some issues concerning lodging, dining and activities that can be done together. With a few tips in your back pocket, enjoying some of the amenities Disney has to offer becomes easier when traveling with a large party.
  1. Booking a Room

    • Lodging is an important feature while staying in Walt Disney World, especially if you're a large family. If you are a family of five or more, some Disney resorts offer family suites for a small fee. These family resorts consist of two adjoining rooms with five to six beds and two bathrooms. If you're in a party that has children and adults, adults can sleep in one room, the children in the other. Disney's Wilderness Lodge and the All-Star Music Resort have some of the largest family suites.

For even larger families, there are the Walt Disney World villas. These suites resemble small apartments, with a kitchen, dining room, living room, several bedrooms upon request, and a large restroom. A villa or family suite is considerably less expensive than purchasing two or more non-adjoining rooms or family suites.

    Restaurants

    • When booking your trip, purchase the Disney dining plan. This plan covers the majority of your dining costs (lobster is not covered), and you won't have to worry about going over the spending budget. This plan covers three meals a day during your trip. That way, if anyone is still hungry, they can pay separately.

While eating out, consider Disney's buffet-style restaurants. There's a wide variety for picky eaters as well as the adventurous types. Quick-service diners also have numerous selections.

    Parents and Children

    • If you're a parent with many children visiting Disney World, you're in luck. Disney resorts offer child-friendly activities from early in the morning until midnight. Children will get the chance to interact with resort staff and go on scavenger hunts, mini-cooking camps (Wilderness Lodge Resort and the Contemporary Resort) or take part in arts and crafts activities. While the children are supervised, you can experience a more "adult" Disney. Downtown Disney and Disney's Boardwalk offer sports bars, shopping and spas.

    Family-Friendly Attractions

    • Check out attractions that appeal to both children and adults. Animal Kingdom's Kali River Rapids can easily seat up to 12 people in a single raft. Also in Animal Kingdom is Kilimanjaro Safari, which seats 20 per Humvee, so your family won't be separated. Disney's musical shows are also family-friendly. Catch Animal Kingdom's "Spirit of the Lion King," Magic Kingdom's "Mickey's Philharmagic," Epcot's "Illuminations" and Hollywood Studios' "Beauty and the Beast the Musical."
