Vacation Ideas for Big Families

Planning a vacation for a big family requires a little more effort than planning one for a normal-sized family. As far as airlines, hotels, and package deal plans are concerned, a family is composed of the quintessential two parents and two children. So what happens to those who do not fit into this niche? Any extra family member means more expenses and more planning to accommodate everyone. However, there are a few vacation ideas for big families.
  1. Disney Family Vacation

    • Disney World Resort is located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Disney World is comprised of four theme parks which include Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Epcot and The Magic Kingdom. There are two entertainment and shopping districts, Disney's Boardwalk and Downtown Disney which offer a vast array of entertainment, shopping and dining options. Large-sized families can stay in deluxe villas such as Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Bay Lake Tower, Disney's Beach Club Villas and Disney's Old Key West Resort. The prices vary depending on the type of villa, size and the number of people and the season. For instance, a two-bedroom villa with a standard view in Disney Boardwalk Villas go for $770 per night for a family of eight while a family of 12 will pay $1,765 for a three-bedroom villa.

    Family Cruises

    • A big family can also go on a cruise. Many cruise companies accommodate large families and even offer good entertainment for both adults and children. Specifically, look for a line that has a well-stated children's program, or kid's club. For instance, the Disney Cruises, Carnival Family Cruises and Celebrity Cruise Lines are great for both the little kids and the adults. Other family-oriented cruise lines include Crystal Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Seabourn Cruise Line. The Disney Cruise Line has staterooms which are specifically designed for families. There are different categories of rooms with options like verandahs which look out onto the sea and deluxe rooms with expanded space.

    Family Ski Resort

    • Family skiing can be a lot of fun when the family goes to the right ski resort. A family-oriented ski resort will have slopes adequate for different skill levels as well as other activities for the family members who do not appreciate the cold, wet snow. It should have nurseries for babies and toddlers, and offer skiing lessons to young children. For families with teenagers, there are alternatives to skiing like tubing, snowmobiling and riding a sleigh. An example is the Breckenridge Ski Resort, in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Breckenridge offers both children's lessons and child care nurseries.
