Many cities and towns have access to local campgrounds. Whether these are private or public facilities, campgrounds often have amenities such as pools, volleyball courts, tennis courts, laundry facilities, fishing, hiking and even satellite television hook-ups. Search for campgrounds in your surrounding town where you can take the family. For the purchase of just a tent and a couple of lightweight sleeping bags, you can be prepared to hit the wilderness. You can also borrow tents and sleeping bags from friends, family and neighbors. If there are no campgrounds in your area, you can also turn your backyard into a campground by pitching a tent and digging a fire pit.

If you are a fan of the cinema, then taking a day to relax and having a mini-vacation at the movies might be just the ticket. Select two or three movies that you would like to see. These do not have to be the latest releases. Often cities and towns also have art movie houses that provide fare, which is different than the mainstream. Also, if you start your movie day in the morning, you will probably get a break on the ticket prices. If you are bringing a sizable family, check for movie ticket books that give a discount for purchasing many tickets at once. They may also have coupons for popcorn, soda and candy.
