Pack separate bags. Separate bags allow each member of the family to know exactly what they have. This also cuts down on confusion when everyone is changing clothes during the vacation.
Make a list for the family of all the items they need. The list should include a swimsuit, beach towel, underwear, shorts, shirts, pajamas, shoes, sun screen, lip balm, bug spray, toiletries and a small pouch to secure money and credit cards. Have each person prepare one pair of clothes for every day of vacation plus a couple extra pairs for emergencies. A jacket and long paints should be included for breezy walks on the beach at night.
Look up the forecast for the beach you are visiting. Bring umbrellas or rain slickers if necessary.
Check the dress code of any upscale restaurants you want to visit during your vacation. Pack extra clothes for your evening out.
Pack items you need for entertainment. Beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, and surf boards are available for rent at most beach locations. Some other items to consider bringing are kites, beach toys, music and reading materials.
Include items the entire family needs. Every beach vacation needs a basic first aid kit with aloe vera cream to soothe sunburns. Pack a camera, film and a camcorder. Prepare a small bag of snacks for the trip to the beach. If you are driving to the beach pack a cooler with drinks for the ride. Brings plastic bags to carry wet clothes home in. Life jackets or floating devices also need to be packed if anyone does not know how to swim.
Line up the prepared bags in a hall or living area the night before you leave for the trip. Double check that everyone has included everything they need.
