How to Pack for an Overseas Family Vacation

When embarking on a family vacation, your to-do list is usually a mile long. Especially if it's an overseas vacation. By planning ahead, everything will go a little bit smoother. That includes packing. Follow these steps on how to pack for an overseas family vacation.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of the essentials that everyone must bring. You can do this weeks before it's time to depart. Add to it when you think of something else.

    • 2

Pack everyone's passports in an easy-to-get-to but secure spot. Put other important documents with the passports. This includes your itinerary and reservations for your flight, hotel and rental car.

    • 3

Put all toiletries in a one quart size plastic bag. FAA rules mandate that nothing is larger than 3 ounces. Put all liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols in the bag and carry it through security. One bag is permitted per person.

    • 4

Carry on medications, jewellery, travelers checks and other valuables.

    • 5

Bring clothing and shoes that will cover all types of weather and occasions. You'll need rain coats, sweatshirts, long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. Think of dressing in layers. Pack dressier clothes if you're visiting museums or plan to have a romantic dinner out.

    • 6

Create an activity bag for the children. Allow them to put in one or two of their favorite toys, along with crayons and coloring books and other quiet activities. This will keep them entertained and in their seats on the plane.

    • 7

Let your children help you pack so they feel like they have a say. Make a game out of who can pack the neatest.
