Instructions

    • 1

Pack your swimsuit. Swimming in the ocean year round is something that people enjoy in Mexico. Be sure that your suit offers coverage and support even when swimming in surf and waves. If you plan on snorkeling, diving or body surfing, spend extra time making sure that you won't experience a wardrobe malfunction on the beach!

Plan for hot weather. Most of the year on the coast of Mexico, the temperatures are in the 70's-80's. Be sure to pack shorts and tank tops or t-shirts. Loose, cool clothing is key to having a comfortable vacation. Being casual is expected.

    • 3

Pack at least one pair of loose pants and a long sleeve shirt. Unless you are traveling in the summer, the nights get cool even in southern Mexico. If you like moonlit walks on the beach or sitting on the balcony at night or in the early morning, have at least one outfit that will keep you warm.

    • 4

Wear sensible shoes. Unless you are hiking or doing a walking tour, you will probably want open toed shoes like flip-flops or sandals. Hot, sweaty feet can lead to discomfort. If you plan on doing more active trips, bring a pair of good walking shoes that are broken in and won't cause blisters. Bring cool, clean socks.

    • 5

Wear a hat. The sun can be relentless and even people with a full head of hair can experience a painful sunburn on the top of their heads! Even if you don't plan on lying in the sun, you'll want a good travel hat!

    • 6

Don't forget the sunscreen and bug guard! You can buy them south of the border but they are more expensive. If you need sensitive skin formula, you might not be able to find it. Mosquitoes are common and Dengue Fever is a real problem in Mexico and South America. Bring a good bug spray to wear at night and if you tour the jungles.

Pack some less casual wear. It's forbidden to wear bathing suits, or beach wear into the churches and cathedrals. If you plan on seeing any of the religious places or taking a trip inland from the beach, you will want something that covers you up and is more formal.
