Find out what kind of luggage you can take. Most airlines allow one bag plus a carry-on piece. Know how much weight you can carry. Allow room for any souvenirs you may purchase. Also keep in mind you are the one who has to move the luggage.
Pick out your clothing. Don't forget extra underwear, socks and comfortable shoes. Pack for the weather in the country you are visiting. You can check climates on Internet sites like the Weather Channel. Pack rain gear no matter what the forecast.
Pack your toiletries. Include any prescription medications you need as well as over-the-counter pain and allergy medicines you need. Check the TSA website to see what you can pack in your carry-on luggage in the way of toiletries. There are limitiations on container size.
Prepare your electronic gear and your camera. Take the appropriate electrical adaptors for anything you plug in. If you can live without your electronic equipment, leave it at home.
