The 33,000-acre Cuyahoga Valley National Park is located just west of Boston Heights, Ohio, along 22 miles of the Cuyahoga River. It offers the Cuyahoga Environmental Education Center, recognized as one of the top environmental education centers in the United States. Serving more than 9,000 students a year, it provides special programs and events such as the National Park Service Junior Ranger programs, seasonal festival as well as teacher and parent workshops. The park also offers meetings spaces for private and business functions for up to 250 people with guest services that include catering and the use of audio-visual equipment. Other activities include fishing on the Cuyahoga River, golfing on one of four privately-owned golf courses within the park and horseback riding on its bridle trails. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is open every day although the visitor center is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. As of January 2011, admission to the park is free.
Fun-n-Stuff is an amusement park located just north of Boston Heights in the town of Macedonia. It offers a variety of attractions and activities that include: Laser Tag in a 4,000-square-foot arena, a 36-hole outdoor mini-golf course, bumper boats in a 135,000-gallon lake, a Grand Prix go-kart course (with a rookie go-kart course for children four to six years of age), shooting gallery and the Eurobungy facility. In addition, it offers more than 100 video games in the arcade, five hardball and four softball batting cages, a climbing wall and a roller-skating rink. The facility also offers rental space for parties, special themed nights and group discounts. It is open from Friday through Sunday during the off-season but operates daily during the peak season.
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is one of the oldest and longest scenic railways in the United States. A non-profit organization operating in partnership with the Cuyahoga National Park, it offers two different three-hour, roundtrip excursions on its vintage passenger trains: the National Park Scenic tour that travels along the Cuyahoga River through the national park, and the Canton-Akron Flyer, which travels through the countryside between the two cities. The four Exploring Excursions (Peninsula, Canal, Akron and Canton) offers flexible schedules where guests can explore the final destination and return on any schedule return trip. On-board dining options include menu items such as sandwiches, soups, salads and snacks, which are prepared by Acme Catering. As of January 2011, the excursions are offered only on weekends from January to May and during the months of November and December. During the busier months from June through October, tours are offered Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at all boarding stations the day of the trip or online.
The Ellsworth Meadows Golf Club is a public golf course located in Hudson, just southeast of Boston Heights. Recognized by "Golf Styles" magazine as one of the top 100 places to play in Ohio, it includes an 18-hole golf course, a driving range and a pro shop that offers lessons and clinics by the PGA Head Professional, Greg Andrego. It also includes a snack bar that offers regular menu items that range from burgers to pulled pork. As of January 2011, the course is open seasonally and offers reduced rates for seniors as well as twilight play, which begins approximately two hours before sunset. Reservations for tee times are highly recommended and can also be reserved online.
