Situated approximately 19 miles off the coast of Puerto Rico lies the small Puerto Rican island of Culebra. Only seven miles long and three miles wide, Culebra offers no large resorts or hotels, yet provides residents and visitors a few small hotels and inns and informal restaurants to enjoy.

    • Mamacitas is a guesthouse on Culebra, offering an open terrace and waterside restaurant. Open for lunch from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and for dinner from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., its menu highlights the fresh seafood available from local waters such as Caribbean lobster, red snapper and mahi-mahi, as well as traditional burgers, beef, chicken and pork dishes served with Caribbean sauces, and Puerto Rican favorites like tostones and rice and beans. Vegetarian and children's menus are available. It offers breakfast buffets 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

    Susie's Restaurant

    • This beach casual restaurant boasts both indoor and outdoor canal-side seating and serves up fresh native fruits, vegetables, seafood, beef, lamb and chicken. Its fare ranges from traditional Puerto Rican soups and entrees made with plantains and yucca mash to St. Louis barbecue ribs and Indonesian chicken. It is open Tuesday through Sunday 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. As of 2010 prices range from $8 to $24.

    The Dinghy Dock

    • Open since 1990, the Dinghy Dock is a Culebra local favorite. Set on the edge of the Ensenada Honda, patrons can pull boats up and dock. Enjoy drinks or a meal on water's edge and watch the schools of tarpin swim by. The Dingy Dock is open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for breakfast; 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch, and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner. Seafood is the main offering on the menu along with chicken, burgers and light fare. An all-you-can-eat salad bar is also available. As of 2010, prices range from $5 to $30.
