Tourist Safety in Puerto Rico

Anytime you travel, you should take certain precautions for health and safety. Puerto Rico is not an especially dangerous place for tourists, so you should take the same care you would in any unfamiliar place.
  1. Secure Belongings

    • Carry as little as possible with you, and keep it secured. Keep bags zipped and tight around your shoulders. Avoid carrying money or items in your pockets. Don't pull out large amounts of cash or credit cards.

    Stay in a Group

    • Do not walk around in Puerto Rico by yourself. Stay with a friend or a group of friends. Be particularly cautious at night.

    Stay in Known Areas

    • Limit your travels to tourist areas. If you want to explore parts of Puerto Rico that are not typically tourist destinations, do so with a travel group.
