Visit a local park and take a picnic lunch. Prepare some sandwiches, take bags of chips, drinks and a large blanket. Find a shade tree and have a picnic. Picnics are perfect for children, teens or adults looking for a cheap romantic date. Let your children play on the nearby playground or run and play on the grass at the park.
Some parks have trails for walking, riding your bike and hiking. If your park has any of these, consider these as a free outdoor option.
If you have a dog, take it for a walk around the park.
If you have a beach nearby and the weather is nice, put on your bathing suit. Pack lunches, drinks and snacks in a cooler, and make it a day. Take beach towels and swim, play Frisbee or build sand castles. At night, go for a walk along the beach and look at the stars.
Get a group of people together and play sand volleyball on the beach. Watch the sunset and enjoy a romantic date on the beach.
Check with your local chamber of commerce about special events. Many chambers of commerce offer local craft fairs, movies in the park and concerts. Most of these events are free of charge. Check with local museums, as many offer free admission.
All you need is a kite, wide-open space and bit of land. If you don't own a kite, build one using some sturdy sticks and trash bags to make a diamond-shaped kite.
Go on a walk down your street, at a river walk or at the park. Look for pretty rocks, listen to the sound of water running or just enjoy the walk to soothe your spirit. If you have a local historic district, enjoy window-shopping while walking up and down the district streets. Feed the birds while walking or have a seat on a bench and watch children play.
