Kids' Art Festivals

Many cities throughout the United States hold annual arts festivals. These festivals and celebrations often have activities for children or special kids' days revolving around the visual arts, dance, theater and music. In a few locations around the country, entire festivals are dedicated exclusively to children and the arts.

    • A Children and the Arts Festival is held each year in Petersborough, New Hampshire. Part of the Monadnock region, Petersborough is about 100 miles east of Schenectady, New York. The Children and the Arts Festival is a one-day event held in the downtown area. Activities include an art walk, a parade of giant puppets, performances by local school children, professional storyteller shows, musical acts and dancing.

    Springville Museum of Art--Children's Art Festival

    • Every June, the Springville Museum of Art located in Springville City, Utah holds a Children's Art Festival. The festival is held for one day on the lawn of the museum in conjunction with Springville City's Art Days festival. Past activities at the

      Children's Art Festival have included origami, kite making, paper airplanes, face painting, puppets, paper mache, printmaking and storytelling. Springville City, which touts itself as "The Art City", is located about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah.

    • Proctors Theatre, located in Schenectady, New York, holds an annual outdoor Kids' Art Festival. The festival features storytelling, puppet shows, theater productions and hands-on arts activities along Jay Street in the area of the Schenectady City Hall.

    ICAF: World Children's Festival

    • The International Child Art Foundation, located in Washington D.C., holds a World Children's Festival every four years in conjunction with the Olympic games on the National Mall opposite the U.S. Capitol. The festival is a three-day event that features winning artwork by children from different countries around the world. The festival also offers dancers, musicians and other performers. Free workshops, activities and special events are held during the festival.
