Fall Festivals & Art Fairs in Wisconsin

Each autumn, numerous cities in Wisconsin host special events in honor of the season. These events often celebrate the change of the colors of the leaves and the harvest season. They sometimes incorporate arts and crafts as a part of the festivities. Fall festivals and art fairs in Wisconsin offer activities for adults and children alike and are found throughout the state in communities like Cable and Wisconsin Dells.

  1. Cable Area Fall Fest

    • The Cable Area Chamber of Commerce organizes the annual Cable Area Fall Fest. The event typically takes place in late September over the course of the weekend when the colors of the fall foliage in the community are predicted to be their brightest. Festivities usually begin Friday evening and last throughout the day on Saturday.

Each year, the festival includes live music performances as well as an arts and crafts fair with local vendors. Members of the Ojibwa Indian Nation display and sell artwork in the vendor areas as well. Food vendors are also on hand. Previous years have featured a beer garden and wine tasting. A farmers market offers pumpkins and other produce from the fall harvest. For children, games and activities are available, like moon-bounces and a magic show. Contests are typically held throughout the evening, such as pumpkin dessert contests and a chili cook-off.

The majority of the events for the Cable Area Fall Fest occur at the Cable Community Center. The event is free to attend. Free, on-site parking is available at the community center.

    Gays Mills Fall Apple Festival

    • The city government of Gays Mills plans and organizes the Fall Apple Festival each year. The community is well-known for its commercial apple orchards, and this annual event celebrates the apple harvest.

A major feature of the festival is the arts and crafts fair, which features both vendors and artists selling their wares and fall craft activities for children. An outdoor carnival is available for children with games and other activities as well. A variety of races are held during the weekend, such as two and five-mile runs and a quarter-mile run for children. A horseshoe tournament and flea market are usually included in the weekend. On Sunday, the event concludes with the annual Fall Apple Festival parade through Gays Mills.

The Fall Apple Harvest in Gays Mills occurs over the last full weekend in September each year. Admission is free. Activities during the Apple Festival take place throughout the town, such as in Gays Mills Library, outdoors along Main Street, at Riverside Park and inside area churches.

    Wisconsin Dells Autumn Harvest Festival

    • The city government of Wisconsin Dells organizes and hosts the annual Autumn Harvest Festival. A highlight of the event each year is the Arts and Crafts Marketplace, which has featured as many as 85 vendors and artists in past years. A farmers market is also found at the marketplace.

Other events that occur throughout the Autumn Festival include live music, food vendors and pie-making and pumpkin-decorating contests. Adults can stop at the Wisconsin Dells On Tap exhibit to sample micro-brew beers.
