Whether in a big city or small town, autumn in Georgia is the perfect setting for craft festivals. Admission information, dates and fees are from spring 2010.
Paulding Festivals, Incorporated hosts the Paulding Meadows Arts and Crafts Festival in Dallas, Georgia, the weekend after Labor Day. The festival exclusively features hand-made items including art, fabric goods, jewelry, lotions, jellies and more. Vendor space for the two-day outdoor event is $100. A jury selects 180 talented applicants to feature. Tickets are $3 at the gate or $2 in advance.

Christmas Made in the South, so named because of the multitude of holiday shopping opportunities at each event, is one of the region’s largest craft extravaganzas. Each location features the work of hundreds of artisans. Fall 2010 events in Georgia include the Columbus Convention and Trade Center in Columbus, Oct. 29 through 31; the Macon Centreplex in Macon, Nov. 5 through 7; the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Nov. 12 through 14; and the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, Nov. 19 through 21. Shows include artist demonstrations. Admission is $6.

The Cotton Pickin’ Fair in Gay, Georgia, is held the first weekends in May and October. Crafts include pottery, quilts, paintings, jewelry, birdhouses, woodcarving, puppets, clothing and more. Artisan vendors are juried, and the festival includes an antiques component, food vendors and musical lineup as well. 2010 admission rates are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

The Yellow Daisy Festival in Stone Mountain, Georgia, features crafters and artisans from all over the state. The event is juried for the highest quality of handmade goods. In addition to over 500 artists, the festival includes clogging, artisan demonstrations, children’s activities and food vendors as well as a Men’s Den with recliners and TVs. The 2010 festival is Sept. 9 through 12.
