The festival features artists from around the world demonstrating many forms of art, including jewelry, photography and paintings. Artists may compete for prizes in the portrait competition. A local committee selects the winners of the competition and winners receive an award on the final day of the festival. The work of the winning artist is also displayed during the festival.

The New Jersey Korean American Festival each year celebrates the Korean holiday of Chusok, similar to the American holiday of Thanksgiving. According to Korean custom, the beginning of the harvest is also a time to celebrate family and honor ancestors; harvest is considered a bounty provided by one’s ancestors. The New Jersey festival began over eight years ago, and continues to grow each year, with an attendance of approximately 120,000 in recent years. The three-day festival begins with speakers, films and concerts, and also features traditional Korean food as well as performances highlighting Korean music and dance.
