Ocean Breeze Waterpark is the only water park in Virginia Beach, making it a popular summertime destination. The park has 16 water-slides, a one-million gallon wave pool, a water playground, and several slides and attractions for younger children. The park has numerous pool-side cabanas and shady areas for taking a break from the sun. It also features a gift shop filled with souvenirs and swimming accessories, as well as a snack area. Activities and water rides for younger kids include a replica pirate ship with a shallow pool, slides and swings; larger slides for parents to accompany children; and a slow-moving river for inner-tubing. Licensed lifeguards and trained staff are in attendance at all rides and attractions. The park is open from the month of May until Labor Day.

Located one mile south of Rudee Inlet, the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center is museum popular with parents and children. The center is home to thousands of sea animals housed in over 700,000 gallons of water, featuring salt and freshwater displays. The center has numerous educational activities for children, such as Discovery Days, which is aimed at children ages four to six. The museum's hands-on programs are intended to acquaint kids with marine life and basic science, in a fun and stimulating way. Also offered are events created just for toddlers, featuring treks, stories, puppet shows and songs, which introduce a younger audience to the wonders of the ocean. The center has three cafes for visitors, as well as two gift shops. The aquarium and science center are open daily, from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., with extended hours during the summer months.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk is one of the city's most prominent features and is a popular leisure destination for visitors. Built in 1888, the three-mile-long beachfront area is lined with shops, restaurants, amusement areas and museums. The boardwalk also features live entertainment stages and numerous works of public art, such as the large statue of Neptune, which has become a symbol for the boardwalk. One of the best boardwalk activities for kids is the Virginia Beach amusement park, which is located across from the pier, on 15th Avenue. The park includes tame rides for younger children, as well as thrill rides.
