The Lobster Roll is a 40-year tradition on the East End of the Island in Amagansett on Montauk Highway. Sit at a wooden picnic bench and slurp bowls of creamy lobster bisque or grab a hot dog roll stuffed with lobster salad--the classic--at market price and not to be missed. It's a two-hander and you can add a side of slaw if you can manage it. Kid-friendly with fast service, The Lobster Roll can attract some long lines in the height of the season, but you will get your lobster roll. Try an egg cream with it. Season-only, very casual.

The Cull House sits dockside at the Sayville Ferry to Fire Island and serves up a variety of tasty seafood. You can try golden fried calamari, crabmeat-stuffed shrimp or sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna. Or go for the raw bar or a large crustacean. Lobster tails over a pound come steamed, crabmeat-stuffed or broiled for market price and a half-pound Brazilian lobster tail to dip in melted butter will set you back US $27.00 (March 2010 prices).

Louie's Oyster Bar and Grille on the waterfront on Manhasset Bay provides inviting views of Long Island Sound and the New York City skyline to go with its award-winning fish food. Louie's has been around since 1905 when it was on a barge anchored offshore and catered to---well, colorful characters. It's been in its current location since the 1930s, a bit more elegant these days than when it was known as the Kare Killer. The fixed price early-bird menu for US $21.95 offers a choice of appetizers, including crab cakes and seafood salad, entrees like cioppino (seafood stew) and orange dill salmon and key lime pie or moose trax pie ($2.00 extra) that is made with homemade Kahlua fudge brownies. You can take the car or your boat home.
