Sarasota, Fla., is home to multiple beaches, including the spacious and popular Siesta Key. This beach has won multiple awards and recognitions for the sand and water quality. The high content of quartz found in the sand, created by ocean coral, keeps the sand cool and sparkling in the sunlight.
Beach parking is free, but close parking spaces are limited. Additional free parking spaces are available for beachgoers at the intersection of Beach Road and Midnight Pass.
Siesta Key visitors can bring personal coolers with food and drink onto the beach. Glass containers and smoking aren't permitted. Smokers using empty pop cans as ashtrays are frequently spotted on the beach, but if they are detected by safety officials, a fine can be issued.
Removal of sand from the beach is strictly prohibited. Small children will not be tackled by beach security and have their pails checked, but area natives will readily report destruction of sand.
Pets are not permitted on the beach. Nearby Brohard Park Beach does allow friendly off-leash pets in the beach and water areas. Portable grills and campfires and not permitted. Free use of public grills in a grassy area off the beach is available.
The beach is open from sunrise to sunset, with nearby camping available with a beachfront view. Lifeguards and a first aid station are available near Siesta Key beach in Venice, Fla. Visitors also can use beach-capable, manual wheelchairs at no cost. The wheelchairs are available on a first come, first served basis.
